Obesity & Type 2 Diabetes
Obesity increases the chances of developing the type 2 diabetes. In this disease, the body makes enough insulin but the cells in the body have become resistant to the salutary action of insulin.
People with obesity develop a resistance to the insulin that regulates blood sugar levels. Over a period of time, high blood sugar levels can cause serious damage to various organs in the body.
There are many other risk factors for type 2 diabetes but the single best predictor of type 2 diabetes is overweight or obesity. Almost 90% of people living with type 2 diabetes are overweight or have obesity. People who are overweight or have obesity have added pressure on their body’s ability to use insulin to properly control blood sugar levels, and are therefore more likely to develop diabetes.
